Cinnamon Millet Porridge

I love the taste of millet, but it has amazing health benefits too. One of these is its ability to stop premature skin aging. Millet contains two powerful amino acids called Methionine and Lysine, both of which help your body create collagen. Collagen is the substance that keeps skin firm, stops sagging and helps fight wrinkles.

It keeps your digestive system healthy. If you suffer from digestive problems and constipation, adding millet to your diet can improve your digestive system.

Feeling tired lately? Millet can help you to relax. Millet contains the amino acid tryptophan which works as a natural relaxant. It can help you feel less stressed out during the day and help you sleep better at night. The relaxing properties of millet can also help reduce blood pressure, ward off tension headaches and reduce anxiety.

Here's my mom's recipe for a healthy, beauty breakfast!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Millet
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 cups Coconut milk
  • Dash Sea Salt
  • Coconut syrup or Honey to taste
  • Handful Raisins
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Coconut oil

Directions:

  1. Soak millet in water overnight.
  2. In the morning, boil millet and water. Reduce heat and cook for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Add milk, cinnamon and salt and cook until desired consistency (about 10 more minutes), I like to leave some liquid for more watery porridge.
  4. Add some raisins and coconut oil right before you turn off the heat.
  5. Drizzle with coconut syrup or honey.

A good quality, organic millet is important to avoid the bitter taste some people associate with this grain.  Try Organic Hulled Millet (3lb) by Anthony's - Gluten Free, Raw and USA Grown.
